Tonight during my drive home after seeing the fiance and his family, including a german lesson from him I was detoured not once, but twice by lots of flashing lights and emergency vehicles on both 518 going out of league city, AND on montrose. I was also passed on the right on I45 by a cop going at least 90 miles an hour. Then when I got to the light at waugh and westhiemer a metro bus ran the red light at full speed. AND by the montrose kroger I saw a night herron standing on one leg looking like he was going to fish — stupid wetland birds!
Needless to say, its been an eventful night, and I’m going to go to bed now, because, frankly, running around with kids for 7 hours tomorrow is going to need the energy.
I’ve graduated, I’m back, and ready to blog again with enthusiasm. Needless to say, I think I’ve got quite a bit to catch up on. No?
A couple weeks ago I finally made it to St. Arnold’s Brewery for an event hosted by some St. Thomas student and alumni organizations, and I had a lot of fun. Now I’m really looking forward to doing the brew tour with John Paul, and I plan to get a collection of ALL of the pint glasses! I got the summer pills (John Paul’s favortie) but really am in love with the spring bock glass
Alright, I should be working right now, so I’ll sign off and post again tomorrow… or later tonight, whenever I get back here soonest!

Its the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas today!! The Mass will be officially tomorrow for the school because of activity period, but I figured I should post something today
Ok… I know I seem to attack PETA quite a bit, but they are one of those organizations who have always rubbed me the wrong way.
Here’s a commercial that they wanted broadcasted during the Super Bowl this Sunday:
NO wonder it was banned! This sounds crass, but there are certain ‘toys’ of an adult nature that are veggie shaped… UGH. Also, considering the type of person who watches the super bowl, there is a heck of a lot of meat that will be consumed this Sunday, and saying something like vegetarians have better sex seems like it would cause a whole heck of a lot of headache. (Remember, like I’ve said before, I’m mostly veggie myself, and probably going to move to complete veggie this year)
Anyway, agree with me or not, I shall continue rolling my eyes at them
Ok, so I think if I worked anywhere else that my humming the St. Arnold Brewery song could get me in trouble… heh.
Why I have it stuck in my head you ask? Well, I found out that they offer event rentals, and am hoping to be able to use it around the first part of August
So, going through ENN earlier I noticed a link to the NY Times about a newish housing idea thats beginning to become popular in Germany (click here).
From what I gathered the idea is that you live in an air-tight home which holds heat in. While this is a good idea for heating, I do wonder if the same concept could be applied to the Houston area for making engergy efficient homes that cool? Also, I do wonder about the radon exchange?
Hm… this is something I will have to look into more. And a-googling away I go!
Ok… obviously I’m getting married like a bunch of other people this year, but I’ve decided that I’m sick of sites like The Knot, and thats mostly because it seems like EVERYTHING there is money driven. Also, it seems like so much of it is focused on the wedding day rather than the marriage itself. Don’t get me wrong, I love weddings as much as any other girl, and some of the stuff on there is really useful, like the budgeting tools and the local vendor search. But other things seem excessive. I want a simple wedding, one that will mark the beginning of mine and JP’s family, and one that will be memorable and fun for the people that we want to share that day with. And in all honesty, for me that doesn’t include spending an extra $200 on monogrammed napkins. Its just not my thing.
Thankfully, I’ve found some WONDERFUL blogs that so far have made it easier for me to sleep at night. They’re linked over yonder —>
So, when I logged onto the Chron this morning this story about a lobster caught my eye:
NYC eatery grants freedom to 140-year-old lobster

NEW YORK — A 140-year-old lobster once destined for a dinner plate received the gift of life Friday from a Park Avenue seafood restaurant.
George, the 20-pound supercentenarian crustacean, was freed by City Crab and Seafood in New York City.
“We applaud the folks at City Crab and Seafood for their compassionate decision to allow this noble old-timer to live out his days in freedom and peace,” said Ingrid E. Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA spokesman Michael McGraw said the group asked City Crab to return George to the Atlantic Ocean after a diner saw him at the restaurant, where steamed Maine lobster sells for $27 per pound. George had been caught off Newfoundland, Canada and lived in the tank for about 10 days before his release.
Some scientists estimate lobsters can live to be more than 100 years old. PETA and the restaurant guessed George’s age at about 140, using a rule of thumb based on the creature’s weight.
He was to be released Saturday near Kennebunkport, Maine, in an area where lobster trapping is forbidden.
I find it funny how PETA acts like this is a sort of humanitarian effort Its a lobster. Also, I have a question about the diner who saw the lobster at the restraunt… I’m pretty sure its safe to assume that that person was associated with PETA, and if thats the case why on earth was a PETA person eating there? After all, don’t the promote a vegan diet? And from what I know about vegetarianism/veganism John Paul can attest to that) wouldn’t a vegan eating there be odd? Granted they could have just gotten a salad or something, but it does strike me as pretty funny.
Its cool that the restraunt was willing to release it though, considering that at $27/pound they just missed out on a sale worth about $540 not including tax
(side note: I’ve been shifting towards vegetarism for years now, so I do know what I’m talking about, and subscribe to veggie magazines
